QUESTION:
Spanclamps has a a torque recommendation for PN SCQT-LH0610/SCQT0610-LH ?
We are installing the quarter turn knobs onto a plexi plastic cover assembly ( plastic spec is polycarbonate, UL 94HB). We are trying to get a recommended torque value for the screws, part number 92010A004 (M2x0.4, 8MM Long, 90DEG Flathead Screw), that secure the quarter turn knob in place.
- Any chance there is a torque value Spanclamps could recommend?
- We are also trying to find an alternative to Loc-Tite because we suspect it’s causing our plastic covers to crack. If there is any alternative that comes to mind from your experience, we’d appreciate you sharing.
ANSWER:
We understand the problem that you are facing. I talked to our engineering team but they do not have any data of the tightening torque. But we would like to give you a suggestion.
Out of a table from a torque wrench manufacturer
For metal plates, the M2 size of screws require a tightening torque of 0.176 Nm for metals
For plastic, Aluminium, brass use the table 0.5T = which means: you require a tightening torque of 0.088 Nm
Lots of engineers refer to this list and some of them are saying that they should apply more torque.
So We would suggest you can apply 0.1 Nm or more.
